How the Podcast Started
Contractors share technical knowledge all the time. But the business side? Pricing strategies, marketing decisions, hiring, finances—those conversations rarely happen openly. Most owner-operators figure it out alone, repeating mistakes that someone else already paid for.
Outta The Weeds exists to fix that. The format is simple: bring on contractors who have built successful operations and let them walk through exactly how they did it. What problems they hit, what decisions moved the needle, what they’d do differently with five more years of hindsight. These are the conversations contractors have over coffee with a friend who’s three steps ahead – except now they’re available to anyone willing to listen.
Guests range from operators running small crews to owners managing multi-million dollar companies. What they share is specific—real numbers, real decisions, real outcomes. The kind of operational knowledge that usually stays locked inside individual businesses, now out in the open where it can help someone else.

Meet Ryan Deemer
Ryan Deemer has spent over a decade working with contractors on the business side of their operations – pricing, hiring, systems, cash flow, all the stuff that’s harder to learn than the trade itself.
Before starting the podcast, Ryan worked directly with hundreds of contractors across different trades and markets. That work revealed something frustrating: the same problems kept showing up in different businesses. Contractors three states apart, in completely different trades, making the same pricing mistakes. Asking the same questions about hiring. Hitting the same cash flow walls. Each one thinking their situation was unique, when really they were all walking the same path a few steps apart.
Ryan is also the author of Outta The Weeds: How to Build a Business That Doesn’t Run You, a book on business systems for trades contractors. He brings that same emphasis on practical, implementable strategies to every episode of the show.
